Be the Happy Loser !

What am I talking about? Negativism? Not at all! I am just changing the perspective here from the literary meaning.
We would all hope and love to loose some weight, wouldn't we? Barring some extremely lucky individuals who actually can eat to their hearts content and still look fit as a fiddle.
One may ask, how does this co relate with the fertility issues. It does, because the basic essential for good fertility is a healthy body. For women AND men.

Obesity in men has been known to affect sperm count and motility. And if the background leads to the entire spectrum of diabetes, hypertension,  type A personality and a unhealthy stressed corporate lifestyle, well that's all the ingredients there to adversely effect the well being of the sperms. The high cholesterol, high sugar levels, neuropathy associated with diabetes and the stressed lifestyle which allows for little or no physical activity.

For women the problems of weight gain can stem from more than self imposed reasons. There could be thyroid imbalancee, polycyctic ovaries, over and above the usual culprits of  a sweet tooth, demanding taste buds and lazy mind!

Correction of Thyroid disorder, especially hypothyroidism is as easy as a song and dance and goes a long way in improving ovulation, fertilization , implantation and perinatal outcome of the baby.

PCOS story in context to obesity and hormonal imbalance is a little like the chicken and egg story, one never knows who came first but we do know that they are there and need correction which is also linked to each other. As little as 5-7% weight loss can make all the difference from an anovulatory cycle to spontaneous ovulation. The hormonal imbalance gets on a road to correction as the reduction in fat leads to reduction in male hormones produced therein.

Now that we know being a loser, weight looser, I mean, is such a good thing, how do we go about it? Fad diets? Crash diets? Expensive high end microscopic meals? Personal trainers? Or the easiest way out i.e., cosmetic liposurgery?

If you ask me, none of the above! One needs to understand the pathology and correct the same on the path to loose weight.
A consult with your doctor, if needed an endocrinologist, along with a sensible diet plan that reduces caloric inputs, increases the fiber and protein content and the all essential, physical exercise is what the prescription says!
We need to attack the "FAT Monster" in a three prong approach. Cut down the incoming, increase the outgoing and keep the balance!

Keep the glow on the cheeks, the spring in the step and eat your way through the task of weight loss! That makes you take home the trophy of "The Happy Loser"...At least till you women start gaining the pounds on the happy road to pregnancy! Those pounds and the currency pounds are the only ones worth gaining! Loose the rest !!
